Once OpenVPN Access Server has been installed and configured it is time to update it:

1. Go to http://openvpn.net/index.php/access-server/download-openvpn-as.html?osfamily=Ubuntu and download for Ubuntu 9 (at the time of writing, Ubuntu 9 is used as the base OS for OpenVPN AS)

 wget http://swupdate.openvpn.org/as/openvpn-as-1.8.3-Ubuntu9.amd_64.deb

2. The architecture from the OVF template is 64 bit (hence the 64 bit download of the update above) now to install it simply do:

dpkg -i openvpn-as-1.8.3-Ubuntu9.amd_64.deb

And it should update straightway:

If you have installed Microsoft Security Essentials you might have seen that you are automatically enrolled in the “SpyNet” program with a “Basic membership”

From Wikipedia:

Microsoft SpyNet is the network of Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials users that help determine which programs are classified as spyware. The signatures created for any submitted programs by the users of the product are available to all users, displayed as a bar graph that shows the percentage of people who have allowed, blocked, or removed an item. This method of spyware classification allows rare, unknown, or new spyware to be categorized as most people choose to send their data.

Luckily since version 2.0 users can now completely opt out from within Microsoft Security Essentials by going to Settings tab selecting Microsoft SpyNet and then selecting the I do not want to join SpyNet radio button:

Additionally if one would like peace of mind the following entries can be added to the %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file in notepad:

    127.0.0.1 Spynet2.microsoft.com
    127.0.0.1 Spynettest.microsoft.com

If you have purchased a Billion 7300N router and found yourself unable to establish VPN connections even after forwarding all of the ports and opened everything up to the internet, then you need the new version of the firmware – UKBillion-7300N-1.08a.dj2-A.afw.

This is for the PPoA version of the router!

After you have upgraded the firmware successfully, then you will be prompt for restart option, please select restart the router with Factory Default Settings option for the new firmware to take effect.

Do not restore settings from a previous built firmware!
