Managing a Workgroup Hyper-V 2012 R2 Server from Windows 10

Following on from from Windows 10 and Server 2012 R2 Server Manager – “WinRM Negotiate Authentication Error”  we now want to be able to manage a workgroup Hyper-V 2012 R2 Server remotely from a workgroup Windows 10 client.

Prerequisites

Step 1 – Enable  Remote Settings

Log on to the server and if Core (as in this instance) we need to enable Remote Management and Remote Desktop 7:

Step 2 – Disable firewall, remote admin share access and WinRM config

Step 3 – Enable Remote Anonymous Access in COM Security

On the client side – in this case it is a Windows 10 system – open up Component Services MMC:

%windir%\System32\dcomcnfg.exe

  1. Right-click and go to Properties of My Computer
  2. Go to COM Security tab
  3. Click on Edit Limits
  4. Select ANONYMOUS LOGON
  5. Check the Allow box next to Remote Access

Wrong quotation marks ( ” instead of ” ). This should work:

      winrm set winrm/config/service/auth ‘@{CredSSP=”True”}’
      winrm set winrm/config/winrs ‘@{AllowRemoteShellAccess=”True”}’
      winrm set winrm/config/winrs ‘@{MaxMemoryPerShellMB=”2048″}’
      winrm set winrm/config/client ‘@{TrustedHosts=”*”}’
      winrm set winrm/config/client/auth ‘@{CredSSP=”True”}’
