If when trying to authenticate to an VMWare ESXi vSphere 5.5 environment with your Active Directory Windows credentials and you receive a “A general system error occurred” – then you can try a few things:
1. Restarting the LDAP services:
/etc/init.d/lwiod restart /etc/init.d/lsassd restart
2. Perform a gpupdate /force on the primary domain controller configured on the VMWare host
