Windows Server 2012: Configure TCP/IP on Server Core

So if you have just installed Server Core 2012 and want to set a static IP address you might have been looking at the Microsoft site only to find that they’re asking you to put a dash ” – ” before the IP and gateway address, which will invalidate the command.

1. Run PowerShell and enter the following command:

Get-NetIPInterface

2. Select the interface and give it a static IP

netsh interface ipv4 set address name=ethernet source=static address=10.0.1.3 mask=255.255.255.0 gateway=10.0.0.1

3. Configure DNS

netsh int ipv4 add dnsserver name=ethernet address=10.0.0.10 index=1
